DuPage County Democrats have chosen five candidates to take on the unopposed Republicans in the general election later this year.
During the March primaries, many high profile races lacked a democratic candidate, but under state law, the party can choose to put a candidate on the ballot to represent them in November, if they gathered enough signatures.
Now the races for county board chairman, forest preserve president and three county board seats may have liberal candidates.
Current DuPage County Democratic Chairman, Robert Pieckert, has agreed to run against current board chairman, Dan Cronin.
Republican Joe Cantore will now face Brian Wolter of Carol Stream for the presidency of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.
And party leaders chose Aurora resident, Regina Drucilla Brent to face District 5 County Board member, Tonia Khouri. Roland Waller and Max Havlick have been tapped to take on the other two open board seats.
Each candidate needs to secure 998 signatures to officially be placed on the ballot.
The 2015 general election will be held on November 4th.
