Brisk hikes through the forests of DuPage County are proving to be a great way to stay active.
About a dozen hikers attended the first of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s weekly “Forest Fitness Walks” at Fullersburg Woods.
The hikes, which take place in a different preserve each week, are led by a naturalist who guides the group through the forest while educating them in the process.
The easygoing atmosphere often allows them to walk further without even realizing it.
“I have a lot of walkers that are surprised they accomplish either a mile, three miles, five miles in the amount of time that they do,” said David Andrusyk, Naturalist with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. “They’re focused more on the social aspect and learning about nature.”
The walks get a little bit longer each week, culminating in a ten-mile hike.
