DuPage County Budget Address

Though the State of Illinois is in it’s third month of unknowns, without an operating budget plan, DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin set forth his plans for the county with the facts he does know.

“I know the rest of the state is watching as DuPage leads the way in the areas of accountability, consolidation, collaboration, and transparency. Our blueprint demonstrates we can reduce the size, scope and cost of local government,” said Cronin.

Despite the potential reductions in funding from Springfield, Cronin proposed a $443. 8 million budget for fiscal year 2016, that’s down $5.7 million from last year.

Good news for residents, his plan calls for no increases in property taxes, which will remain flat for the fifth year in a row at $66.9 million, but he does hope new opportunities will create revenue growth.

“We anticipate existing countywide sales tax revenues to grow 4.8%. I know working together we can foster continued growth in tourism and new business ventures here in DuPage,” said Cronin.

Cronin also budgeted $100,000 to go toward a new effort called project connect- a collaboration that partners those who survived a heroin overdose with follow-up treatment and support throughout the community.

“I know we will maintain that same high quality of life that has drawn people to DuPage for generations-safe neighborhoods, excellent schools, close-knit communities providing a welcome place for all,” said Cronin.

The County Board is expected to vote on the annual budget at their meeting in November for the start of the next fiscal year on December first.
