DuPage Children’s Museum Re-opens

The DuPage Children’s Museum was officially re-opened to its members.

Just a few months ago the museum was flooding on all three levels, but now children can enjoy the new look with many added enhancements.

“They’re going to have a whole new reimagined Creativity Connections Exhibit, they’re going to see that we listened to what they told us they wanted to see before the flood even happened,” said President and CEO of the DuPage Children’s Museum, Sarah Orleans. “They’ll see lots of new color in the museum, we have two fun exhibits that are technology exhibits that are using interactive art to sort of make the exhibits come alive and so I’m looking forward to seeing what our visitors think.”

But fresh paint and new exhibits aren’t the only additions to the space.

A ceremony and dedication of a new volunteer center was held to recognize the nearly 1,000 volunteers who work at the museum- and it was named in honor of one who’s dedicated his time to children.

“I know that I’ve had the privilege of volunteering in many, many organizations, but when you volunteer for the children and you see their lives change and you see them benefiting by what we have here and how they make things work and put things together and learn and have fun, that’s what its all about,” said Mayor Emeritus, A. George Pradel.

Between the cleanups, renovations and the loss of business during the flood the museum lost around $3 million. But Orleans hopes with the changes in place, children and families will gain much more than ever before.

“We can’t wait to see you all, we are so excited to open our doors and for all of you to know that this is the beginning, the beginning of this reimagined Children’s Museum, that put a pedal to the medal, happened a lot faster than any one ever imagined, but it’s an exciting time for the museum and for the members to get feedback,” said Orleans.
