The District 203 board discussed the increased drug use inflicting the student population, entertaining the idea of random drug testing for those involved in sports and other extracurricular activities.
Naperville North High School Athletic Director Jim Kondrad cited 30 violations of the co-curricular code at his school this year, 24 of which were marijuana related.
Right now, only athletes are tested and only for performance enhancing drugs.
Both Konrad and Naperville Central High School’s Athletic Director Andrew Lutzenkirchen plan to talk to other school districts that test for recreational drugs while district staff plans to look into issues related to legality, privacy, and cost.
School board members plan to resume that discussion at their June 17th meeting.
