Loaves and Fishes recently hosted an event to discuss the importance of food security with a nationally acclaimed doctor.
Dr. John Cook of the Boston Medical Center is one of the Children’s Healthwatch Principal Investigators, and has a particular interest in food insecurity, having limited access to an adequate amount of food.
“If we want to continue to be prosperous and I’m sure everyone does, we have to make sure our children have enough of the right kinds of foods to eat,” said Dr. Cook.
According to Dr. Cook, poverty, food insecurity and hunger are the greatest threats to our society.
50 million Americans lived in food insecure households in 2011; 16.7 million of them were children.
