Following the stabbing at Frankie’s, as well as another at Blackfinn, the Naperville Police Department has tried a few different strategies to ensure the safety of downtown patrons.
Police have increased their presence, worked closer with bar owners, and increased training for bar employees.
They also worked with the Naperville Restaurant Association to release a guidebook to bar and restaurant owners covering security, intoxications, and age verification.
“We’ve increased patrols in the downtown especially in the evening hours when the bars and the restaurants become very populated,” said Bill Davis, Sergeant, Naperville Police Department. “We’ve had some incidents that we’ve addressed but usually on the weekends we always have extra patrol down there and ensure everything is running safely and smoothly.”
Downtown crime has decreased by 11% from January to October compared to the same time last year.
