The Naperville Park District sent a special invitation to Santa to join kids and families for some delicious donuts and holiday cheer, and he said yes!
“We’re having donuts and they’re telling me what they want for Christmas, and they can ask me questions. We even read a story! It was beautiful. Children smiling, some crying, but that’s all part of being human, right?” said Santa Claus.
This is the first year the Park District hosted Donuts With Santa. Kids could decorate donuts from DeEtta’s Bakery, sit with Santa and enjoy holiday story time.
“Well, I think kids really enjoy getting up close and personal with Santa. And it’s funny, a lot of times they’re not even asking for what they want for Christmas, they just want to see him, touch him, talk to him,” said Sparkle the Elf, one of Santa’s helpers from the Naperville Park District.
There was a great demand for donuts and some quality time with the man in red. The event was posted for registration in August and within two weeks was completely sold out.
“This was our runaway hit of the season. This is going to be offered and we’ll probably expand it next year into more seating because there was a waitlist. So I think it’s a new tradition we started at the Park District that I’m really excited about,” said Sparkle.
