Dollhouse Donated to the City

A local resident’s handmade miniature house built years ago is now on display just outside the mayor’s office.

Paul Koziol designed and created the model home as a project for his master’s thesis in occupational education, finishing it in 1992.

He then gave the project to his daughter to use as a dollhouse when she was 8 years old at the time.

Koziol says he spent 500 to 600 hours and thousands of dollars, building the Queen Ann style house from scratch, using mostly birch plywood.

The elaborate structure even has hinges on the walls so it can be opened up to accommodate tiny furniture.

Now that his daughter is grown up, Koziol decided to donate the house to the city of Naperville.

“At one point my daughter says, ‘Why don’t you sell it?’ and I said, ‘No, I don’t want to sell it. I’d rather donate to the city so that others can see it and maybe it’ll even inspire some kids,’” said Koziol.

The dollhouse remains on display on the second floor of the municipal center. Koziol designed and made the table that the dollhouse sits on as well.

You can check it out during normal business hours throughout the week.
