Naperville’s city government will undergo a change in 2015. City Council passed an ordinance amending the municipal code to create city council election districts.
Voters passed the referendum in November 2010, and a court order required city council to pass the ordinance. The changes will take place in the 2015 municipal election cycle.
Naperville will be split into five districts. One council member will represent each district. Three members will be elected at large.
The main concern for council members was the mapping of districts. Some on the council felt that map could be more equal. Ultimately, the ordinance passed with a vote of 7-2.
