District 204 Update

57% of teachers voted against the most recent proposal, and are pushing for a contract that satisfies all.

“We need to continue to address the multiple issues with working conditions that exist in our contract to help make our district a place where all students can truly succeed. We stand here in unity before you tonight and again commit to working together to come up with a contract that is fair for all parties. I thank you for your time,” said Paul Gamboa, President of the Indian Prairie Education Association.

The district plans to regroup and continue to negotiate another proposal.

In other news at the meeting, the district reported they have a high rate of students going to college.

The district partnered with the National Student Clearinghouse to look at post-secondary success of their alumni.

The Clearinghouse works with more than 3,600 colleges and universities to see how many high school graduates enroll in two or four-year universities, and how many students stay for a second year.

From the class of 2013, Waubonsie Valley had an 84% enrollment with 77% of those students retained.

Metea Valley sent 85% of their graduates to college where 78% stayed on for their second year.

And Neuqua Valley showed a 93% enrollment with 89% of students returning.

“Our students have the wherewithal and resilience to withstand and thrive in the independent world of college, and the challenges that probably for all of us came one day if we went off to a college. So we’re very, very proud of that retention rate,” said Bob McBride, Principal at Neuqua Valley High School.

The district attributes students’ success to college and career readiness activities, a strong support system and focusing on Common Core standards.
