The top three finalists from seven District 204 schools competed for a chance to become the spelling bee champion.
“Incognito” I-N-C-O-G-N-I-T-O “Incognito,” spelled Viraja Alluri,
Winner Viraja Alluri spelled her 21st and final word after going head-to-head with second place winner Jonathan Li for thirteen rounds.
“I’m so grateful and I honestly, I just have to thank my parents and my Language Arts Teacher Mrs. Labianca because they’ve just provided so much support for me and without them I couldn’t have done it,” said Alluri.
Twenty-one students entered the Crouse Education Center but only three walked out with the opportunity to compete at the next level. Alluri, Li, and Arjun Sundararajan will move on to the ComEd/DuPage County Final Local Spelling Bee at Wheaton North High School on February 26.
