District 204 had a lot to celebrate at their latest board meeting, recognizing state champions from sports to speech.
Waubonsie Valley’s girls bowling team was honored for their recent first place finish at state.
This is the second year in a row the warriors took home the state title, making them only the fifth Illinois school to be back-to-back bowling state champions.
Metea Valley had their first ever state champion in Jordan O’ Brien who took home the title for swimming and diving.
Students from the Neuqua Valley speech team were recognized for their second place state finish, along with 4 first place individual winners.
High schooler’s weren’t the only ones who were noticed by the board. Fry Elementary student, Katherine Smirnov was applauded for being named the National Champion in the Investwrite Competition.
This is the second year in a row a student from Fry Elementary took home the title in the writing competition.
The district itself had reason to celebrate as well, the board approved a plan with AT&T that will save them $36,000 a year.
AT&T will provide the district with telephone and communication services for the next three years, as part of the new contract.
