School District 203’s Interim Superintendent will be dropping part of his title. Dan Bridges has signed a three-year contract to serve as 203’s Superintendent of Schools, officially filling the position vacated by Mark Mitrovich in June.
The school board spent the last five months searching around the country for a superintendent but decided they had the best fit already right in front of them.
“I feel very fortunate to be in a community that really embraces the schools, parents who are interested in being involved and engaged,” said Bridges.
In his new position, Bridges will have a lot on his plate, like whether to recommend implementing all-day kindergarten and deciding if more boundaries need to be changed following plans for redistricting this past spring.
“What I recommended to the board that we do is be patient,” said Bridges. “We will review our enrollment and attendance numbers over the first month of the school year and then look at our actual enrollment and see where we may need to address some space needs.”
Bridges had been working in West Aurora’s School District 129 since 1998, when he left to join Naperville’s school system in July of 2011.
The board will welcome Bridges to his superintendent position with a reception at their September 4th meeting.
