District 203 recently held their first Board of Education meeting for October.
A report was given on how changes to the summer school program resulted in increased enrollment.
Steeple Run’s School Improvement Plan was presented by Principal Debbie Doyle.
Updates were also given on the ELL and Dual Language programs, which have helped students successfully learn in their native and secondary languages.
The Board voted to approve the replacement of the roof on the District’s 5th Avenue property. However President Terry Fielden refrained from voting.
“I will not be voting, I will be abstaining from future construction contracts and anything relating to any architectural fees so that is why this is under discussion with action,” said Fielden.
His decision to abstain comes after questions were raised regarding his friendly relationship with representatives from Wight Construction Company, who the District frequently employs.
Despite some recent conflicts, the 203 Board has been selected to receive a governance award from the Illinois Association of School Boards.
