Last year, all high school students in District 203 had a Chromebook. This year, junior higher students will also have the devices.
To help parents guide their students in responsible use of this new technology, the district hosted a parent information night with Dr. Devorah Heitner.
Held at Washington Junior High, Dr. Heitner discussed ways parents can model good technology use for their kids and be mentors rather than just monitors.
“I think the most important thing to remember is your kids may have tech savy, but you have lived experience, you have wisdom. If something doesn’t sound right to you, you should be skeptical, don’t let your kids play you, really. Also communicate with their teachers, and in middle school, I know there’s more than one teacher, and that’s a change, but communicate with their teachers, communicate with their counselor if you have concerns. Things may not be as bad as you think, but it’s good to check,” said founder of Raising Digital Natives, Devorah Heitner, PhD.
Dr. Heitner will be presenting at each junior high in District 203 in the coming weeks.
