The referendum question regarding the way we elect city council will be on the April ballot.
DuPage County Circuit Court Judge Bonnie Wheaton recently upheld the Naperville Electoral Board’s decision to allow a binding referendum on the ballot.
“I thought we had a really strong case and obviously we respectfully disagree with the court’s decision here,” said Doug Ibendahl, Paul Sjordal’s attorney.
“Yes! At Large” submitted a petition that would allow voters to once again decide if they want to keep the way we elect city council members at large instead of changing to districts in 2015.
But Paul Sjordal objected saying it was confusing and illegal, and appealed the board’s decision.
After hearing oral arguments from each party, Wheaton decided to let the voters speak.
Ibendahl says he will discuss with his client the possibility of appealing the decision to the Illinois Appellate Court in the next few days.
