Downers Grove Republican, David Olsen will take over for Ron Sandack who abruptly resigned his seat in late July.
Olsen is a member of the Downers Grove Village Council and on the College of DuPage board.
He was selected by the DuPage and Will County GOP chairs after they interviewed about a half dozen candidates.
“Obviously I was just really, really excited about the opportunity to serve and looking forward to the challenges that we face. Obviously in Springfield there are a lot of challenges, our state faces massive challenges,” said State Representative Olsen.
Issues on the forefront for Olsen include increasing opportunities for recent college graduates in the state, and enhancing our education system.
“If we don’t have a phenomenal education system from pre -kindergarten to a higher education system we’re not going to be able to attract and attain great people here in Illinois, I think that’s something that need to be protected and enhanced,” said Olsen.
Olsen will take Sandack’s place in the November election as well, where he will face off against democratic challenger Greg Hose who’s also out of Downers Grove.
