Naperville professionals took to the floor at Meson Sabika to shimmy and shake for charity, at the fourth annual Dancing with the Celebrities.
This year’s Dancing with the Celebrities included:
Sullivan’s Steakhouse’s General Manager, Randy De Guzman Navistar’s Michele Calbi
Deputy City Manager Marcie Schatz
District 203 Superintendent, Dan Bridges
General Manager at BP, Kevin Harris
Naperville Bank & Trust’s Ryan Alvarez
NCTV17’s Executive Director, Liz Spencer
and Naperville resident Leila Taheri, who won her spot in an auction.
After the performances, judges choose the winners of eight individual awards like Best Shimmy, Best Hip Action, and Best Stage Presence.
“It was less frightening than I thought it was going to be,” said Spencer. “A calm came over me. I don’t know what it was, it may have been the cameras.”
And the grand prize mirror ball, voted on by the audience, went to Randy De Guzman who almost brought down the house with his jive, literally.
“In the beginning I was like, ‘Oh gosh,’ but after meeting her and dancing and getting into it, I wanted to do it,” said DeGuzman. “I wanted to practice more, I wanted to get better.”
Beyond the glitz and glamour, the event raises funds and awareness for the Community Career Center.
“It really goes a long way in helping our job. It goes directly into our job seeker program,” said Kim White, the Executive Director of the Community Career Center. “We’re able to help our clients with resume writing, career counseling and continuing to provide the services they need.”
Because of the fundraiser’s success over the past four years, organizers are already planning a special fifth anniversary event.
If you missed the performances, NCTV17 will be re-airing the event in its entirety. Check NCTV17.com for a list of airtimes.
