School District 203 Superintendent Dan Bridges now has a deadline for entering a plea for charges that he tried to cover up sexual abuse in his previous school district.
An anonymous victim has filed a civil suit against Bridges, formerly the principal of West Aurora High School where the abuse occurred, and Aurora School District 129’s Superintendent James Rydland.
Back in 2010 a custodian found the school’s band director Stephen Orland alone in a storage room with a female student, with the lights off and his hands near her chest, and reported it to Bridges.
The lawsuit claims Orland regularly engaged in acts of “sexual innuendo and suggestion,” but had Bridges and Rydland contacted authorities, Orland could have been stopped before his arrest in may of 2011.
Instead of calling the Department of Children and Family Services or the police, the school administrators allegedly conducted their own investigation.
Bridges claims he was never told any information leading him to suspect sexual abuse was occurring.
His lawyer was in Kane County Court briefly, asking the judge for more time for discovery.
The judge set the next court date for September 3rd for a status hearing and set a deadline of October 11th for Bridges and Rydland to plead guilty or innocent.
