The City of Naperville made cultural awareness and understanding a priority in 2013 with the appointment of two Chairmen of Community Outreach.
At a city council meeting in September Mayor Pradel introduced Bill Liu for Chinese outreach and Krishna Bansal for Indian Outreach publicly.
The volunteer positions were created to help bridge the gap between the Chinese and Indian communities and the city.
“They’re making sure that they reach out to the Indian people and the Chinese [people] and give them education,” said Mayor Pradel. “All about the city, and about how it works and how people can really enjoy the lives they live here in Naperville.”
Naperville’s minority population makes up about 40-percent of the approximately 147-thousand residents.
The city also launched a landing page on their website in Chinese characters back in March, to help answer common questions in their native language.
