The human services program at College of DuPage recently hosted its eight annual domestic violence awareness fair, free of charge, at their Glen Ellyn campus.
Run by students, the daylong program featured activities like interactive games and video readings by COD’s award-winning forensics team.
The day served as a way to increase awareness about the rise in domestic violence, and also to raise funds for family shelter service, a Wheaton agency that supports victims of the abuse.
Bonnie Jean Alford is a survivor of domestic abuse.
“I want to teach people that it’s part of life, but if we educate people, we can overcome it,” she said.
Outside organizations like the DuPage County Sheriff’s Department and State’s Attorney office also helped with the event.
