Electric vehicle charging stations and what the cost should be to use them was the biggest topic at the latest city council meeting.
The council voted to pass an ordinance amending the Municipal Code to establish a usage fee for residents to use the city’s electricity and to add three new charging stations.
After originally proposing to charge $0.75/hour for the electricity, the council doubled that to $1.50/hour to encourage a quicker turn-over for the prime parking spots.
“I think it [should] be at least a dollar, if not $1.50/hour for that,” said Councilman Robert Fieseler. “I think that would flush some people out of there, that might just squat for a while.”
The new liquor license proposal for the AMC Showplace Theatre off Route 59 was originally on the agenda for that meeting, but was pushed back to February 18.
