The Snack Shack is officially open for business. Housed within the Connections facility, the Snack Shack offers coffee, water and other treats, as well as some hands on learning.
“The Snack Shack is just a wonderful opportunity for our students to practice their skills. And why our students have said they like it and they appreciate it so much is because they can practice making money exchanges and they can practice retail, in an environment where they feel very comfortable, confident and supported. It’s less pressure as opposed to being right out on a job site,” said District 203’s Transition Services Supervisor, Maura Anderson.
After mastering their skills here, Connections students will then work in Naperville North’s new coffee shop, with the ultimate goal of eventually working at a coffee house like Starbucks or Peet’s.
Created using funds generated by Connections other micro businesses and donations from the community, the Snack Shack is currently only open to Connections students and District 203 staff.
Other Connections micro businesses include making stationary, animal toys and floral arrangements.
