The Illinois Department of Employment Security and the U.S. Chamber teamed up to help jobless veterans find employment.
More than 80 Chicagoland area businesses were represented at the “Hiring Our Heroes” job fair held at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn.
The free event is in part of a national campaign, which is tailored to help veterans, reserve members, and military spouses find employment.
Applicants brought in resumes, and took part in brief preliminary interviews.
As of April, the 10,000th applicant was hired through “Hiring Our Heroes”. The desired goal is to have 500,000 veterans hired by 2014.
“We’ve got global and national employers here. Lots of local employers so the turnout is phenomenal,” said Jane Smith, the
Director of Enrollment Services at College of DuPage. “Good luck to our veterans in finding jobs.”
More than 200 “Hiring Our Heroes” job fairs have been held since January of 2011. The next fair in the area will be held August 3rd at Waubonsee Community College.
