The two-year feud between the Village of Glen Ellyn and the College of DuPage appears to have reached an end and so has the partnership. The Board of Trusties at COD recently held a special meeting where they voted unanimously to de-annex from the Village of Glen Ellyn.
The two sides have been disputing whether the college fell under Village jurisdiction or an entity of the state’s Community College Board. After a court ruling that the college belonged to Glen Ellyn, village officials threatened to issue stop-work orders on the several construction projects. COD president Robert Brueder says he hopes the board and Glen Ellyn officials can still work out a deal for use of the Village’s utilities.
“It’s an unfortunate situation and none of us want to be here,” Said Brueder. “We’ve worked everything we know to do and we can’t continue to engage in this kind of community strife. Nobody wins and the community doesn’t have any interest in it.”
COD officials did report that a check for more than $25,000 was given to the village to clear outstanding debts for previous occupancy and inspection fees.
