College of DuPage Updates

Less than 24 hours after the College of DuPage Board of Trustees voted to terminate President Robert Breuder, he fired back.

Breuder filed a lawsuit claiming the board’s actions have caused damage to his reputation, loss of professional opportunities, and acute emotional distress.

The suit names the college’s board of trustees and the four board members who voted to fire him, Katharine Hamilton, Deanne Mazzochi, Frank Napolitano and Charles Bernstein, as defendants.

The October 20th decision to terminate the former president came after an internal investigation found evidence of “misconduct and mismanagement” that the former president “participated in, oversaw, or failed to prevent”.

This voids any contract he previously had with the college, meaning he won’t be able to cash in on the seven hundred and sixty three thousand dollar severance package approved by a previous board.

“Two years ago we promised to end fraud waste and abuse at the College of DuPage, by ending this chapter the board has kept its promise,” said Hamilton

Breuder’s attorney said in a statement he will seek at least 2 million dollars, in addition to legal fees.
