Naperville’s city manager traded in his suit for a retro baseball uniform and headed to Arizona to play ball.
Doug Krieger spent a week at Sox Fantasy Camp, hitting and fielding with former Chicago White Sox greats like Herald Baines and Aaron Rowand.
Krieger as well as the city’s chief procurement officer Michael Beavis, were among the 70 campers that participated.
Krieger, a lifelong Sox fan, had been wanting to go for the last decade and finally took the opportunity.
“Just being treated not as a spectator but as a friend and as just one of the guys by all the players [and] just a fantastic bunch who have a tremendous love for the game, a tremendous love for the White Sox and really know how to have a good time,” says Krieger when asked about his favorite part.
He returned home with a personalized jersey styled after the 1939 team as a keepsake and hopes to go to the next White Sox Fantasy Camp, which won’t be until 2016.
