City Council discussed funding for grants that help the less fortunate in our community during a workshop meeting. The two grants discussed were the Community Development Block Grant and the Social Services Grant.
The Council wanted $50,000 dollars to be used for suicide and drug prevention, but in light of recent events like the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut and deaths of young people in our own community some council members think more money is needed.
Discussion centered on possible ways the Council could make ends meet to come up with an additional $300,000 dollars. They are hoping to increase the Social Services Grant to $550,000 dollars. No official action was taken, but council members did request city staff to look into how they could budget in the extra funds.
