Chicago Wolves Hockey Team Visits Naperville

At the Naperville Public Library, local residents faced off with a member of the Chicago Wolves hockey team.
Dozens snapped photos with Chicago Wolves Center Alex Friesen.

The local hockey star signed autographs and talked to kids about the importance of reading, and what it’s like to play a professional sport.

One lucky kid won the opportunity to try on Friesen’s official gear. “I’m used to my gear because my gear is smaller, and it felt heavy,” said Niko Vourtsis of Naperville.

Later in the week, French speaking Wolves player, Guillaume Desbiens paid a visit to Waubsonsie Valley’s high school French class to speak his native language with students.
About 200 French-speaking high school students had questions for the Chicago Wolves right-winger, Guillaume Desbiens.

Some asked about his favorite food, others wanted to know more about his newborn daughter.

For Waubonsie Valley High School French teachers, the discussion was a great way for students to practice informal French. “I think it’s really a great opportunity for these kids. Especially kids studying French they don’t have the opportunity to speak French as their colleagues do around here so it’s really a great opportunity for them,” said French and Spanish teacher, Savannah Smith.

The team’s several appearances to libraries and schools in the Chicagoland area are a part of their read to succeed program.
