At the annual Citizens Appreciate Public Safety, or CAPS, awards ceremony, the CAPS Board recognized officers in the Fire Department for their work in the community.
“I have the pleasure to be the Fire Chief here at the City of Naperville and the Naperville Fire Department and it is my pleasure and honor to serve as the Fire Chief for a number of reasons. Primarily, because we have such a fine city made up of so many great people,” said Mark Puknaitis, Fire Chief of the Naperville Fire Department.
Public Education Specialist Soraya McLaughlin, Bureau Chief of Community Services George Hyland and Bureau Chief of Training Tom Moran were recognized for their accomplishments with the Citizens Fire Academy, which is celebrating its 15th year.
The Fire Chief Citizen’s Award was presented to Steven Gutierrez, and Rick Brock received the Coordinator’s Award.
Finally, the evening concluded with Soraya McLaughlin receiving the George Winckler Award; a high honor presented to a Fire Department employee who exemplifies the integrity, honesty and kindness of George Winckler, a beloved 26-year veteran of the Naperville Fire Department who passed away during a training exercise in 1991.
CAPS will be honoring members of the Police Department this May.
