California Closets Denied Variance by Plan Commission

California Closets is trying to open a location in Downtown Naperville.

At a recent Planning and Zoning meeting, the commission voted 7-2 to deny a conditional use variance requested by California Closets to open a showroom on the first floor of Naper Place in Downtown Naperville.

The showroom would be considered a general service business, which would not be permitted on the first floor of most downtown building.

That’s because they don’t typically need the visibility or foot traffic that comes with it, and it’s not the kind of place pedestrians stop by on impulse when walking by.

California Closets may take their proposal to Naperville City Council without the recommendation from the plan commission.
