After closing nearly five months ago, Kreger’s Central Foods, now called Kreger’s Brat & Sausage Haus, is back in business.
Doors opened at 9 am on Thursday, May 15th, and at 9:01, their first customer walked through the door.
“I’m just happy that they’re back because they’re an institution and I’m sure that anyone who’s lived in Naperville for more than about a month knows that. They should come out here and really sample his goods because he’s the last,” said Don Baumgartner, Naperville Resident and Kreger’s customer for about 70 years.
Fourth-generation owner, Bill Kreger, decided back in January to close down the store after 120 years of business. But after spending time traveling, he reopened along with his sister, who had lost her job in corporate finance just two weeks after the closing.
“When we closed the response was incredible,” said Kreger. “It’s been ten times the amount now that we’re reopening, which makes me feel good to know that we carry something or we make something that people want.”
Kreger’s has been known for their brats for more than 60 years, and grilled them for customers every Friday.
They will now be open Thursday through Saturday and feature freshly cooked brats in addition to other customer favorites like pork chops and deli meat.
