All around the Naperville area folks watched as the Chicago Blackhawks soared to victory. In overtime, Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane put the biscuit in the basket to win the game and clinch the Stanley Cup. Nearly half a century since their last championship, it’s a dream come true for die-hard fans.
At Chelio’s Bar and Pub, local Blackhawk fans went crazy over their big victory.
“There are real hockey fans here,” said fan Joe Marik. “You can’t beat it.”
One life-long Hawk loyalist recalled being at a high school dance when the team nabbed the championship title in 1961. Nearly 50 years later, David Firszt savors the sweet taste of another victory.
“I’m actually feeling very euphoric,” Firszt explained. I was hoping and praying but for this to actually happen it just feels…Amazing!”
Chris Chelios who works at the bar is a cousin of the former Blackhawks player who shares the same name.
“The feeling, it’s one of those things that words can’t described it,” Chelios said about the Hawks victory.
This is the fourth Stanley cup for the Chicago Blackhawks in hockey history and Fans hope it’s just the beginning of a winning streak for Chicago sports.
