Two local reality TV show contestants brought some food for thought to the latest Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon.
Wheatonresidents Jerry and Estella Hayes gave the keynote speech about their experience on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser.”
As the show’s oldest couple at the time, they joined season 7’s cast with a number of health problems.
But by the show’s finale, Jerry lost 177 pounds and Estella slimmed down by 83 pounds, even after getting kicked off during just the second episode.
Jerry’s weight-lost success won him the at-home prize of a $100,000, a reward given to the person who shed the most pounds while at home after being removed from the show.
“I’m no longer on blood pressure medicine,” said Jerry. “I’m no longer a type two diabetic. Sleep apnea – gone. Gout – gone.”
Chamber members say their story was an inspiration to them.
“It’s just a major feat. It seems like it’s just an impossible thing to do,” said chamber member John Robbins. “And they gave you the step-by-step instructions on how to make it happen.”
The couple continues to work out for an hour every day and they keep record of their weight each week.
