Easter mass was a little more special this year for parishioners of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
The bells in the bell tower chimed for the first time in nearly three decades.
Father Milota is happy the bells were ready to peal during Easter celebrations.
“It’s special that they’re ringing during Easter which is the most important holiday in Christianity,” said Father Milota.
The 167-year-old parish restored two historic bells that were made out of the bronze left over from a devastating fire that ravaged the parish in 1922. A third bell was also cast to commemorate “The Year of the Faith.”
“It’s a joyful event in so many ways,” says Milota. “It’s a testament to the perseverance of the people of our parish and the grace of God he gave us to continue.”
The parish is excited for the bells to fill a very important role, calling people to mass.
The new bells will now peal to signal the beginning of mass and every hour on the hour. They will also ring during special occasions, weddings and for funerals.
