Thousands of workers who travel on a Metra train to and from Chicago will now have more reliable cell and mobile Internet service.
AT&T has added 4G LTE-capable small cell sites to all 11 of Metra’s routes.
The new fixtures are designed to allow AT&T customers to call, text, and surf the web more efficiently while riding the train.
“At AT&T we know that most people riding the train are using that downtime to be productive to tweet, text, email, make phone calls, and post to Facebook,” said Erin McGrath, a Spokesperson for AT&T. “This is something that we’ve done to make the commute a little more enjoyable, and maybe make it a little more productive for work.”
Metra is working on making free Wi-Fi available on all commuter trains.
