When it comes to renaming Nike Park, residents say, “Just do it”.
The Naperville Park District has approved a 60-day consideration period to change the name of the park, which is often confused with Nike Sports Complex, located just to the North West.
Residents requested the name change at the board meeting on August 23rd, their suggestion? Apache Park, due to its location on Apache Drive.
They hope the new name will cut down on the increased traffic and confusion surrounding the park under its current name.
Following the consideration period the name will be presented to the board once more, for approval.
The original name, Nike Park has no relation to the sneaker giant what so ever, and actually comes from the location; which once housed a U.S. Army Nike Air Defense System from 1950 to 1970.
