North Central College students banded together for a week to tackle hatred.
Motivational speaker Stanley Person appeared as the keynote speaker for the campus’ annual Anti-Hate Week. Person uses what he calls “Inspirational Comedy,” to engage young audiences in easy conversations about difficult topics. In his most recent presentation titled “Just Because I Am, Doesn’t Mean…” Person discusses stereotypes and racism.
“Hate isn’t something we’re born with,” said Person. “So part of what my mission is, is to create an open vessel because when you have an open vessel, things can flow through them.”
Students also had a “We Love” march across campus and watched a special screening of the film “State of Terror: The Truth About Terrorism.” Students also walked through the Tunnel of Oppression which highlighted the suffering and injustice of different groups of people throughout history.
