Anderson’s Bookshop changing ownership and its name? Hardly.
The store tried to pull a fast-one for an April Fool’s Hoax, putting signs in the window that it will have a new owner, A.J. Fikry.
If that you think that name sounds familiar, that’s because he’s the title character of the book “The Storied Life of A.J. Fickry,” which is about a fictional independent bookseller who overcomes tragedy.
Anderson’s wanted to pull the prank on April Fool’s Day, which also happened to be the book’s release date.
“We were so thrilled with this book because it talks about the love of literature, great short story books for all ages and this book really struck a chord with us that we really fell for the April Fool’s joke that the publisher suggested we do this and we said, ‘We’re game.’
And NCTV17 was also in on the joke, posting a fictional story about Anderson’s Bookshop’s ownership and name change on our website and social media but of course, the store has no such plans.
Anderson’s also has a contest going on right now through the end of the month where customers can take a selfie with a baby doll named Maya, who was featured in the book as a baby who was left in the fictitious bookstore.
Photos with Maya will be put on Anderson’s Instagram site and participants will be entered into a drawing for prizes, including first in line when author Gabrielle Zevin comes to town for a book signing on April 30th.
