Construction is almost finished on Naperville’s newest hotel. Crews have been working hard transforming the old Holiday Inn Select on Diehl Road into a state of the art Marriott.
Last August our cameras got a chance to see how the Marriott was coming along and six months later, they are almost ready for opening day.
“We are now at the end of the inning so to speak, the ninth inning,” said Dan Gustafson, General Manager, Chicago Marriott Naperville. “We are gearing up to just make this thing a successful hotel. We have about two weeks of construction left.”
One of the highlights of the Marriott will be what hotel officials call the “Great Room” with three parts: a business zone for check in and check out, an individual zone for reading, and a social zone complete with a day/night bar.
“We’re trying to be the best we possibly can be with a full service customer experience from start to finish,” said Wes Graf, Director of Sales and Marketing, Chicago Marriott Naperville. “It’s fabulously first class and we’re focused on the customer. It’s getting back to the roots of hospitality, making sure that we treat customers the way they want to be treated.”
Although they are covered up to avoid scratches, the marble floors in the Great Room are in place. The bar and the front desk are nearly ready for the rush of customers.
“We are now just starting to do all the accents and the final touches for the Great Room,” said Gustafson.
The hallways leading to the guest rooms are complete with brand new wallpaper and recessed lights. The hotel has seven floors, with 378 guest rooms and 46 suites. It will also have 21 meeting rooms and two ballrooms for weddings, parties, and events.
The doors will officially open on April 2nd, but members of the Naperville community will get a chance to see the ballroom early. The Marriott is hosting the annual State of the City Address on February 27th.
“We have a temporary permit,” said Gustafson. “The grand ballroom, the pre-function space for the ballroom and the bathrooms are all complete. We are extremely excited to hold our first event.”
Marriott officials say they are right on track with their $30 million budget.
