Tonight the District 203 school board approved plans to offer all-day kindergarten at seven of its schools. The district will institute the optional program at its title one schools, starting next August.
Those are institutions that receive extra money from the federal government to aid students who are behind academically or at risk of becoming so and include:
The board will take a look at its effectiveness after the first year and then may implement the program at all schools. To do so would require the construction of a $1 million addition at Naper and a $300,000 addition at Ellsworth for the summer of 2014.
