One local group took the chance to honor those who put their lives on the line to help others.
The 100 Club of DuPage County recently celebrated area firefighters and police officers for their heroism and bravery during their annual Valor Awards banquet held at the Lisle/Naperville Hilton.
Naperville firefighter-paramedics Charles Gros, Thomas Bradtke, and Chad Langellier were bestowed with the life-long honor.
The three men were nominated by their peers for a call they responded to back in February of 2012, when workers at Dukane Precast were trapped in a silo.
“Who would have thought someone would be trapped up to their neck in a silo that is used to mix concrete,” said Naperville Fire Chief, Mark Puknaitis. “[It was] certainly someone’s worse day and then turned out to be someone’s best day.”
Men from Hinsdale Fire Department and Westmont Police Department also received awards.
The 100 club of DuPage County provides assistance to families of law enforcement and firefighting personnel who have been killed or injured while working in the county.
