Dog lovers in Naperville took their four legged friends for a walk to benefit a local animal shelter.
More than 500 owners and their pooches gathered at Fifth Avenue Station for the “Makin’ Strides for Strays” walk-a-thon.
A.D.O.P.T Pet Shelter, who provides temporary care for homeless dogs and cats, organized the 5k walk.
Gretchen Teal-Zednik proposed the idea of a walk-a-thon when she arrived to the shelter in the early 90’s. 19 years later, her dream has come to reality. “Shelter animals are a great way to go,” she said. “They have come sometimes from hard situations and they need someone to give them that wonderful second chance. By giving the animals another chance and good homes is the best part about it.”
The event raised more than $45,000, which will go towards vet bills and the overall operation of the animal shelter.
