From royal blue with feathers to a staycation destination – A Chair Affair, celebrates art while providing aid to the homeless.
“We’ve been really excited this has really been embraced by the community and when we asked artists to revamp a chair of their choosing we had no idea how unique they would be. Every one is so totally different,” said Bridge Communities Event Coordinator, Jennie Gates.
27 suburban artists took part in making an originally designed chair for the fundraiser.
“The artists had complete free range to bring out their own unique talent in how they interpreted the event. For someone who isn’t too terribly creative to see that, it’s like. ‘Wow I would’ve never thought to do that’,” said Gates.
Residents can pick up a map, take a stroll downtown to take a seat in the creations, then head over to www.bridgecommunities.org to vote for their favorites
“We will have the people’s choice the top ten be part of a live auction, while the others will be auctioned off at a silent auction,” said Gates.
While these works of art may seem like entertainment, they will help Bridge Communities take a load off those in need.
“It goes straight to bridge communities, the families, it will go straight into our program,” said Gates. “We are a two year program to bring more of a holistic approach to end homelessness for families.”
A Chair Affair live auction and event will take place on June 12.
