Romance, Kung Fu Fighting and Samarai swords. These aren’t scenes from the latest action movie, it’s the Xilin Lantern Festival, and it took place right here in Naperville.
Spectators packed into the sold-out show at North Central College to watch a variety of performances. From little ones to adults, there was something for everyone.
This is the 9th year the Xilin Asian Community Center has put on the show, and attendees say each year just gets better.
“We are really glad we built up this love for performing arts,” said the Executive Director the Xilin Association, Linda Yang.
You don’t have to travel too far to be exposed to this fascinating community. In fact, some flew in all the way from China to perform.
“We have a dance troop from the Jilin Province, from Northeast China and Xilin performers from the Xilin Community here,” said Chinese Community Chairman Bill Liu.
Lantern Fest organizers say the show is a beautiful way of exposing the community to Chinese traditions.
