A District 204 student was the center of attention during the last day of school for his accomplished musical talents.
Eighth grader Dhanuka Samarakoon tickled the ivories during the beginning of Still Middle School’s “Moving On Ceremony.”
The annual event celebrates the accomplishments of the middle-schoolers while getting them excited for high school.
Samarakoon was diagnosed with autism when he was less than two years old, but it wasn’t until six years ago that he began learning to play the piano.
Today, he plays flawlessly and without any sheet music.
“I think he’s got a really great talent,” said his father, Chanaka Samarakoon. “When somebody plays a note, he can say which note it is without even looking at it.”
295 students moved on this year.
