It took 20 volunteers, five days of work and over a year and a half of fundraising to completely transform this space.
The new home theater and recording studio are located in 360 Youth Services’ Cornerstone Home for Boys.
“We’ve got up to eight boys at any one point that are considered wards of the state and during their time with us the boys live here at the home, as would a family essentially, a four bedroom home with two boys in each room, and they just really have the opportunity to experience their teenage years here with us,” said Chief Executive Officer with 360 Youth Services, Katy Leclair.
An experience now made a little more entertaining thanks to Bright Horizons Preschool and Early Education Center and their Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, which raises money to renovate areas in homes for children in need.
“What we do at our centers is we raise all of our funds, we design the space, we do all of the work, and we see it all the way through to the end,” said Director of the Bright Horizons in Naperville, Jo Ann Bourgeois.
The Bright Horizons team used input from the boys who live in this home to design the completely redone rooms.
“The boys love to come down here and create music, play video games, watch TV. The boys really like sports so we talked about doing a sports theme,” said Bourgeois.
Many of the boys also love music, leading the group to include instruments and recording equipment in the final plans.
“When we think about this space in the basement, it’s going to be able to be used for enjoyment, it’s going to be used for creativity, it’s going to be used for just general fun and that’s an important part of life. So we’re just excited our kids are going to have access to this type of equipment,” said Leclair.
And this is just the beginning of their partnership, as Bright Horizons keeps in contact with each of the groups they assist.
“We will long term replace things, repair things when they’re broken, find out whatever the agency needs and then support them with those needs,” said Bourgeois.
360 Youth Services also provides counseling, mentoring and prevention programs to the Naperville community.
