The Healthy Driven Naperville Marathon & Half Marathon is launching their new 2016 Naperville Kid’s Marathon. During this summer-long event, kids can run or walk one mile 25 times over the summer.
Kids age five through 13 have the chance to become marathon runners this summer.
“It’s an easy thing for the summer. You’re on vacation you can still do it, you don’t have to do anything on a particular schedule, you don’t have to do anything other than just to keep up with a pace that gets you the 25 total miles come fall,” says race co-director Dave Sheble,
Along the way, kids can record their progress in a special running log. Then, come race day, October 22nd, they’ll get to finish their final 1.2 miles with other kids at the Naperville North football stadium as part of the bigger marathon event. It’s a program beneficial not just for the kids, but the whole family.
“We do see plenty, plenty of stories where parents came back and said this got us started, now my husband is doing a 5k, I’m doing a half marathon, but it gets them involved as a family, doing things healthy,” notes Sheble.
Kids will get a t-shirt, bib, and finishers’ medal at the end. To register check out the website: http://runnaperville.com/kids-marathon/.
