Michael Szot, the 23-year-old who pled guilty to charges from the 2014 deadly crash at Quarry Lake in Naperville was sentenced to one year of periodic imprisonment and four years of probation in March. However, in June, Szot died of a drug overdose.
Grant Muren, the 24-year-old who was accused of killing his Naperville roommate shortly after moving in on January 21, 2014 also appeared in court this year. Following a September bench trial, Muren was found guilty of second-degree murder, aggravated arson and residential arson, after trying to set fire to the crime scene. Muren now faces up to 30 years in prison.
James Povolo was also in court, due to a July 18 incident where he allegedly set fire to a tent where Naperville resident Scott Huber lives. 72-year-old Povolo has pled not guilty to arson and criminal damage to property. He is expected back in court in March.
